This past week was incredibly busy with a stop at @Hogg Dairy Farm in Highland on Thursday. Special thanks to our Gateway CEO student Sayde and her family for the tour. Even despite the rain earlier in the week, the Hogg family made it work! Shayden led the way. The Hogg Farm is now a 4th generation operation that started back in 1951. Since Shannon and Shawn took over, they have added the Commodity shed, new calf barn and two additional barns. Some cool highlights from a morning on the farm -
- Students visited the parlor, learned about cleaning requirements for before and after milking, the importance of weekly vet visits, FDA regulations that must be followed
- Typically milking is completed 2x per day and over 17k gallons are harvested per day and shipped to Prairie Farms
- Consistency is key for everything at the farm. Animals tagged properly, fed on time - with the right mixture, process for each group of cattle.
- No doubt, this family farm life is always exciting and always chores to be completed. Work with passion and purpose.
- Special thanks to Shawn, Shannon, Shayden, Syler and Sayde for sharing a day in the life (or at least time in the morning) with our Gateway CEO students. And they all loved feeding the sweet baby calves!
