Uptown Scoops was our second site visit this past week. Owner Donna Green spent the morning sharing her insights of building a new business and of course shared some of the best cookies you will ever have! Donna made a huge impact with the transparency of what it takes to build a business from the ground up. Some highlights that really spoke to these young entrepreneurs:
- Donna stressed the importance of understanding your WHY in business. For Uptown Scoops, this includes a very community driven focus with opportunity to create an atmosphere for families and give back through sales proceeds and special products.
- Creating culture with four guiding principles for staff. Choose your attitude. Be present. Make their day. Have fun.
- Launching a business in today’s world includes focus on excellent product creation. Taking time to gain customer feedback, fine tuning recipes and learning the social media world all makes a difference! And also takes a lot of time and commitment.
- Setting goals in business is necessary. There will be challenges to face as a new business owner - AND the key is to not giving up and starting each day with the right attitude.
